SQUATTERS have clashed with police after refusing to leave a public square as they claim the European Convention of Human Rights allowed them to be there.

‘We have a right to be here’ Squatters refuse to move, citing human rights laws to police

In footage taken at Jubilee Square in Leicester, several people can be seen confronting officers attempting to clear the area.

One outraged man was seen engaged in a heated conversation with officers, arguing he had the legal right to stay in the public space.

He said: “We have a right to be here legally under the residential squatting rights and also under the European Convention of Human Rights, Article 13 I think.
