Video of ute driver taking boy’s football divides internet

A video showing a tradesman confiscating a boy’s football after it smacks into a parked car has divided the internet.

In the recording the wayward football is seen coming out of a shopfront before hitting into the stopped vehicle in the Montrose parking bay, in Melbourne’s east, on Saturday.

Presumably kicked by the youngster who chases after it, he is suddenly confronted by a tradesman who is believed to be the owner of the blue ute seen in the video.

As the boy moves to retrieve his ball up the driver of a blue ute springs out of the shop next door and runs towards him.

The older man grabs the youth before pushing him with both hands.

He then moves to fetch the ball, which he takes and puts in his ute, 7 News footage shows.

The video has sparked online debate questioning the authority of the man who stashes the football in his ute.

One man took to Twitter to criticise the harshness of the tradesman who used force over a minor incident.

‘The tradie is out of line,’ he said.

‘It didn’t even hit his car.’

Another commenter wrote: ‘The tradie is a sook, harden up buttercup!’

Another social media user said: ‘Wow I’d hate to be this man’s child.

‘Sure express being upset but if you put that much value into a car but then lil [sic] value of hands in a kid?’

A woman under the name of Sarah simply reacted: ‘Best response ever.’

Victoria police told Daily Mail Australia no formal report had been made in relation to the incident.
