You might be hoping to find an expensive designer bag under the Christmas tree this year, but if you don’t get Gucci there’s no need to be too disappointed.
Stars from The Real Housewives of Cheshire have given their seal of approval to a £20 bag from the high street, evening claiming it’s a nicer bag than a similar offering from Gucci costing £715.
Leanne Brown, Tanya Bardsley, Rachel Lugo and Ester Dee appeared on ITV’s How To Spend it Well at Christmas this week to find out if accessories from the high street could ever compete with their beloved designer trinkets.
ASked to compare five bags ranging from £15 to £160 with the Gucci Marmont matelassé mini bag, a £20 offering from Miss Selfridge came out on top.
And Tanya even admitted: ‘I like it better than the designer bag. Don’t tell my husband.’
The Quilted Crossbody Bag is not currently available on the store’s website, but is available from online retailer Zalando for just £17.84.

Tanya was scathing of the cheapest bag from ASOS, telling her cast mates that they weren’t going to like it
The reality stars were asked to give their verdict on five different bags, with Rachel Lugo left unimpress by a bag from Kurt Geiger, despite it being real leather.
‘No, not for me,’ she said. ‘What I hate is the material and also the smell, because it smells like plastic.’
She was also horrified by Dune’s bag saying: ‘It’s just rubbery feel. It’s almost like a condom on your hands.’
How the housewives rated high street bags
1. Miss Selfridge
2. Ted Baker
5. Kurt Geiger
The top price option, a velvet bag from Ted Baker for £160, went down well with Tanya who said: ‘I kind of like this, it looks expensive.’
Leanne Brown said the gold was ‘too blingy’ but worked well with the black velvet.
The cheapest option from ASOS, £15, met with a scathing response from Tanya who told her cast mates, ‘No, you are not going to like this.’
However, it was the £20 bag from Miss Selfridge that impressed the ladies the most
‘I quite like this. It would fit enough in for a night out,’ Leanne said.
This bag from Ted Baker came in second place although Leanne Brown felt the gold was ‘too blingy’ for her tastes
The cheapest bag on the list failed to impress the Housewives, although it didn’t come in last place
Rachel Lugo claimed this £60 Dune bag had a ‘rubbery’ feel, leaving her cast mates in stitches
Rachel was also scathing of this real leather bag from Kurt Geiger, which came in last place, and claimed smelled like plastic

The ladies couldn’t hide their shock when they learned the price of their favourite bag
‘Definitely. Out of the high street ones, I’d go for this,’ Ester agreed.
The ladies then rated the bags from one to give and when they found out the price of the one that had come on top they couldn’t hide their shock.
‘Brilliant bag for that price,’ Leanne said. ‘I’d definitely have that bag.’
