Rape survivor Gabrielle Union talks about #MeToo campaign

She was raped at gunpoint at 19 as she closed up the Payless shoe store where she was working.

And Gabrielle Union, now 44, opened up about the #MeToo social media campaign in a candid interview with Robin Roberts on Good Morning America on Tuesday.

‘I’ve been talking about being a sexual assault survivor for over two decades now,’ said the beauty.

‘For 20 years, I’ve been trying to tell my story as honestly as possible, with the goal of never having to hear “me too” ever again.’

The Being Mary Jane star continued: ‘When I realized that hundreds of men and women were talking about being part of this unfortunate club, it just rips your heart out.’

The Me Too hashtag was launched by actress Alyssa Milano in the wake of the sexual assault and harassment allegations facing Hollywood producer Harvey Weinstein, who was fired by the company he co-founded on October 8.

Many Hollywood actresses have come forward to say ‘Me Too’ including Debra Messing, Rosario Dawson, America Ferrera and Lady Gaga.

‘It was so wild the other night to see ‘me too’ trending, and when I first saw it, my arm went numb,’ Gabrielle revealed saying it was due to the post traumatic shock that still hits her.

Gabrielle who speaks openly about rape in her new book, We’re Going To Need More Wine, added: ‘I will continue to try to keep educating.

‘You see so much now, with victim blaming and victim shaming, and trying to say that there’s some right way to deal with trauma. I just have to keep speaking out.’

Gabrielle, who looked ravishing in a red dress for the interview, turned up at the New York City studio in a long denim dress with a gold trench coat draped over her shoulders.

She left the studio in a roll neck in grey and purple hues that she tucked into high waisted, baggy pants in dark purple velvet.

Gabrielle, who is married to Cleveland Cavaliers basketball player Dwyane Wade, 35, was later seen out and about in the city in a white vest that she wore over a grey sweater with dark grey cropped pants and white high heels.
