ORIGINAL: PSN is down right now with thousands of PS4 fans reporting the PlayStation Network as not working at the moment.

PSN users have reported issues signing in, with social aspects of the PlayStation Network and with online gaming.

Independent website Down Detector has received a surge of reports of PSN down this evening.

Down Detector is an outage monitor that measures social mentions around certain topics to track outages across the globe.

The issues with PSN appeared to begin just after 10pm GMT, with scores of PlayStation Network users taking to Twitter to report issues with the service.

The Down Detector outage map showed the PSN issues affecting users in the UK, Europe and the US.

At the peak of the PSN issues the outage monitor received more than 3,000 reports that PSN was down.

The official PlayStation Network Service Status page showed “some services are experiencing issues” and a red alert symbol during the outage.

As PSN went down in multiple regions across the globe, users flocked to social networking site Twitter to report issues with the service.

One user tweeted: “PSN down”.

While another posted: “Come on #psn I have had a long day and just wanna play some game #psndown”.

And one wrote: “Been looking forward to Battlefront II for months, finally get home to play it and PSN is down.”

The Ask PlayStation Twitter account said they were investigating the numerous reported issues with the service.

They tweeted: “We’re aware that some users are experiencing issues logging into PSN. Thanks for your patience as we investigate”.

The PSN outage comes after earlier this month Call of Duty fans were left frustrated the first weekend after Call of Duty WW2 was out.

Connection issues took the multiplayer down and prevented many from playing online.

Sledgehammer Games issued a number of fixes in the aftermath, culminating in an update that appeared to have solved some of the worst server problems.

The Call of Duty WW2 developer claims the problem was caused by the extremely high number of players attempting to login during the first weekend.

“At launch, we experienced an extremely high volume of players connecting to our servers in a very short window,” Sledgehammer explained. “This resulted in players experiencing mixed online connectivity across all platforms.

“In response, we pushed a change enabling higher capacity load balancers, resulting in improved live connectivity.”
