As PSN went down in multiple regions across the globe, users flocked to social networking site Twitter to report issues with the service.
One user tweeted: “PSN down”.
While another posted: “Come on #psn I have had a long day and just wanna play some game #psndown”.
And one wrote: “Been looking forward to Battlefront II for months, finally get home to play it and PSN is down.”
The Ask PlayStation Twitter account said they were investigating the numerous reported issues with the service.
They tweeted: “We’re aware that some users are experiencing issues logging into PSN. Thanks for your patience as we investigate”.
The PSN outage comes after earlier this month Call of Duty fans were left frustrated the first weekend after Call of Duty WW2 was out.
Connection issues took the multiplayer down and prevented many from playing online.
Sledgehammer Games issued a number of fixes in the aftermath, culminating in an update that appeared to have solved some of the worst server problems.
The Call of Duty WW2 developer claims the problem was caused by the extremely high number of players attempting to login during the first weekend.
“At launch, we experienced an extremely high volume of players connecting to our servers in a very short window,” Sledgehammer explained. “This resulted in players experiencing mixed online connectivity across all platforms.
“In response, we pushed a change enabling higher capacity load balancers, resulting in improved live connectivity.”
