It’s becoming an annual tradition as popular as Elf on a Shelf.
Since Hannah Sergeant uploaded a video of her sister singing her heart out in a school nativity sometime in the mid-1990s five years ago, the siblings have watched it go viral year-on-year.
This year the Christmas gold has resurfaced just as chocolate-lovers dip into their first door on their advent calendar.

The angel at the front, Ellie Sergeant, has been instructed by mum to sing loudly so she can hear her at the back
Ever the obedient child, Ellie belts out the words, getting closer to shouting than singing most of the time
Even Joseph finds himself giggling as he tries to sing himself with the shouting chorus in the background
It begins with a traditional nativity scene in a church, with the angels and shepherds gathered around Mary, Joseph and the baby Jesus.
As the group breaks out into the song ‘The Virgin Mary had a Baby Boy’, one voice can be heard above the others.
Ellie Sergeant, who was about four-years-old at the time, almost shouts as she sings the words heartily, dressed as an angel with her tinsel halo and silver wings.
She draws the attention of Joseph, who looks around and suppresses his giggles as Ellie sings, and a few of the angels too.
Even a wise man can’t help but peer round to see who is singing so loudly as his eyes stray from focusing on the congregation
Next to Joseph, a wise man peers over to see what all the fuss is about as parents giggle in the background
Ellie’s sister Hannah uploaded the video in 2011 and it’s gone viral every year at Christmas, amassing 1.6m views
Last year, Ellie, originally from Stratford-upon-Avon and now living in Nottingham, told Femail: ‘Mum was really the instigator of the whole disaster that was my nativity play, as she sat right at the back and asked for me to sing as loudly as possible.
‘The ever obedient (and slightly oblivious) daughter, I complied with her request and sang my heart out. I always have had an enthusiastic and individual approach and I think that really shines through in the video.’
Since Ellie’s sister, Hannah, decided to put the clip on YouTube, the video has been watched a staggering 1.6million times and reaches new audiences every yuletide as it gets shared again on social media.
Then and now: Ellie Sergeant was just four when she starred in her nativity play, a video which has been shared more than a million times on social media. Right, is her more recently, shared last year
Ellie added: ‘I was also completely oblivious to the fact that I was singing over everyone else and that all the parents in the church were passing round tissues as they were crying with laughter.’
Ellie also revealed that after the play, everyone came and congratulated her on her performance, something which didn’t go down well with older sister Hannah, who had a solo in the same show.
She said: ‘I am thrilled that my video has brought so much joy to its viewers. Bringing happiness to others is a fantastic feeling and I hope that others can experience that feeling by giving what they are able to this winter.
‘So many of my friends tell me how much their families love the video and the majority of the comments are extremely positive.
‘It is a bit strange to see people I have never met enjoy the video; I only ever thought it would be funny for my family and friends, so it came as a bit of a surprise when I found out how many views there were!’
