Kerry Katona fired from Atomic Kitten after attacking bandmate
The pop and reality star tweeted today that she has left the band.
Katona said: “Was very proud to be the founder member of AK! Had some amazing times with the kittens! And gutted not to be apart of that no more! I guess I’ll keep to knock knock jokes from now on!”
The light-hearted tone contrasts with reports that the controversial performer called her bandmate Hamilton a “toxic c***” during a drunken tirade.
The band had been in the middle of a tour of UK nightcubs and holiday camps when the drama broke this week.
According to the Daily Star, someone at a club pa in Manchester made a reference to Hamilton and Katona replied: “I’m not being funny, I always saw her as a toxic c***.”
The news got back to the other two members of the band and fans at the recent gig at Butlins reported that Katona announced it would be her last timeperfming as part of Atomic Kitten.
A source told the Daily Star on Sunday: “Natasha is adamant that Kerry is out of the band. Management are hoping to smooth things over but it’s not looking likely. Natasha is really hurt and angry.”
The 37-year-old confirmed the news on Instagram, writing: “Gutted that I am no longer a part of Atomic Kitten. Wish the girls all the love and happiness in the world.”
Katona rejoined the band in 2012 after being replaced in 2001 by Jenny Frost.
The band enjoyed greater success in the charts with the new line-up, hitting Number One in 2001 with Whole Again and Eternal Flame, and again in 2002 with The Tide Is High.
Atomic Kitten split in 2004 but were reformed for the 2012 TV show The Big Reunion.
