“This will, unfortunately, bring another wave of unnecessary disruption for some customers travelling in Europe.

“We will be using larger aircraft, where possible, to help affected customers and are doing all we can to reduce the levels of disruption.

“Public transport to and from airports could also be affected by the national strike, so please allow extra time for your travel plans before and after your flights.

“Any customer due to fly to or from any Italian airport on Tuesday May 8, regardless of whether their British Airways flight is operating or not, can bring their flight forward ahead of the strike period or move it back to a date up to and including Friday May 11.”

Other airlines have also been affected by the Italian strike.

Ryanair and easyJet have been forced to cancel a number of scheduled flights to Italy.
