GOLDIE HAWN is back in cinemas with her first film in over a decade - the comedy caper Snatched, in which she stars opposite Amy Schumer.

Goldie Hawn just revealed a shocking secret about The First Wives Club

But one of her most famous roles of all time is definitely The First Wives Club, in which she played alongside Diane Keaton and Bette Midler.

The movie became a cult classic and is one of the most famous comedies of all time – but Hawn, now 71, has revealed a surprising truth about its history.

It seems the film never got made at all – because of its female stars.

One of the measures taken in order to get the go-ahead was, it seems, for the three women to slash their paycheques – even though all three of the leading ladies were well-established names in showbusiness.

For First Wives, we all took a cut in our salary

“Even though we were all stars, [Hollywood] was nervous about the movie,” Hawn told Harper’s Bazaar.

“For First Wives, we all took a cut in our salary, we all took a cut in our back end.

“Because the studios were never sanguine on trusting that women carrying a movie would actually work.”

However, the icon now seems to have a surprising attitude towards ageism and sexism in Hollywood.

“You think you’re going to fight the system? You think you’re going to prove to Hollywood when you hit 45 that you’re still a sexy, viable object? No,” she explained.

“There’s a certain reality. Does it make me angry? No.

“I’m not an angry person. I’m not a militant person. Anger doesn’t get you anywhere. It’s not productive.”

Snatched has been a hit at the box office, and even outperformed King Arthur in US cinemas last weekend despite bad reviews.

It’s out in the UK now.
