Brisbane woman run over by a 4WD in Broome

A woman who was sleeping on a beach in northern Western Australia has been seriously injured after she was run over by a four-wheel-drive.

The Brisbane woman was struck by a Toyota Landcruiser about 3am on Sunday as she lay on the beach while sleeping in a swag on Cable Beach in Broome.

The 39-year-old is believed to have been camping with friends, ABC reported.

The woman suffered multiple bone fractures and internal bleeding, according to The West.

She was treated at Broome Hospital and then was moved by the Royal Flying Doctor Service to Perth where she was collected by ambulance for further treatment.

She is currently in Royal Perth Hospital in a stable condition.

A 56-year-old driver of the Landcruiser is being questioned by police in relation to the incident.

Police say no charges have been laid.
