A BRIDGE over the M20 in Kent has collapsed between junctions 3 and 4, with at least one person injured and traffic backing up for miles.

Bank Holiday chaos: M20 bridge COLLAPSES onto lorry blocking Dover port link until SUNDAY

The bridge that collapsed had been blocked off to the public for some time, according to locals.

It is thought the pedestrian-only crossing was also undergoing repairs at the time it collapsed onto the M20, causing massive tailbacks on one of the busiest travelling days of the year.

One local, who asked not to be named, said: “That bridge has been under some works for ages.

“Over the past two years, I think.

“I think it had been closed off to the public anyway.

“I’m really not sure how the lorry hit it – either the lorry was too tall or the bridge just collapsed due to age.”
